Lucky me! My phone rang and it was Bonnie inviting me to sail. I just love when that happens!
She had a ride for us both on a J-30 called "Bump..." for the Screwpile Regatta in Solomons, Maryland. Unfortunately, there was no One Design class for us and we had to race in PHRF so we started out knowing we didn't have much chance to win, but hey, a regatta is a regatta so why not!
http://www.screwpile.com/results09/class8.htm will show you how badly we did, but, hey, we won our 'sub class' against the only other J-30! The air was mostly very light but not as bad as I've seen up there in past years, and luckily not as hot. The best breeze was the last day, which also gave us our best results of the week. In fact, our best race of the week was the very last race! Oh... and, very important... I got another Mt. Gay hat for my collection! Thanks Pam!
After the race week, we went back to Annapolis and were invited to race on Insatiable, another J-30 for the Wednesday night race and we had a J-30 class for that and plenty of wind. I was glad we had a couple of big guys on the boat to get that jib in! It would have been too much sail for me with those little winches! The Wednesday night races there finish right in the harbor in front of the Annapolis Yacht Club and if you don't get your sails down and engine on, you will be IN the bridge with all the spectators who gather up there to watch!
Our results were better in the One Design class.. we finished 2nd!
